Depart Nairobi for the picturesque Kikuyu highlands. Here lush green coffee farms flourish amid flowering Nandi flames and lilac jacaranda trees. You may stop at Karatina market for beadwork and other beautiful handiwork, then continue to the Aberdare Mountains to spend the night at the Ark Tree Hotel. The water hole is a great attraction and it is gently floodlit throughout the night. From the comfort of the hotel, observe rhino, elephant, buffalo and other game. On request, the resident warden alerts guests to late night arrivals of leopard, bongo and other special sightings. [lunch & dinner]

Among other delights this part of Kenya boasts of the reticulated giraffe, the rare grevy's zebra, the long necked gerenuk antelope and the long-horned oryx. Samburu also has an astonishing variety of birds including golden palm weavers and pygmy falcons.
